artist bio

Shelby Lancaster (b. 1995, East- Central Texas) is a mixed media artist with her BFA from the University of North Texas (2025.) Lancaster’s work is a means of finding/manipulating the material that best suits her desire. With a preference for texture and material development; soft sculpture, found objects, and natural components are reoccurring elements in her body of work. Lancaster is currently working through themes of spirituality, grief, and preserving ideas of connectedness with mixed mediums and varying substrates– her work is achieved using methods of retraction, staining unprimed surfaces, acrylic washes, and drybrush techniques. Lancaster has exhibited throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex including shows with Arts Fort Worth, Fort Worth; Friends Co., Denton; Anna St. Studios, Denton; 500X Gallery, Dallas, and group shows within the CVAD department at UNT. Lancaster is a believer in the human experience and showing up honestly through her work, allowing space for vulnerability and the Holy Spirit to take forefront.

It is only because of God and the works of the Holy Spirit through me, that I am able to do what I do.

“equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
